Overview
There is a lot about photography that I enjoy. The activity of composing and capturing images is always fun, whether I'm out looking for photo opportunities or creating artwork in a controlled studio environment. I like working with the cameras, the lenses, and the accessories. It's a tactile process, hands on like playing the saxophone. I also appreciate the physics behind the optics and other mechanisms, and likewise the acoustics of wind instruments fascinate me. And of course, the satisfaction of creating an artistic image to share with others is the ideal fruit of the whole process.
I love black and white film most of all, but do shoot a lot of digital these days for the convenience and lower cost. Still, there are things you can do with silver halide that you just can't do with CCD sensors. You can plug-in the grain more or less, but you cannot effectively simulate an orange filter. As for subject matter, I enjoy available light photography, and hence inobtrusive live performance work. I love to explore portraiture because the possibilities are limitless and I feel I've only just begun to figure stuff out. Architecture is a big interest of mine, mainly in appreciation of well executed aesthetics. And I can't help but be a photojournalist of anything odd or amusing, or to share images of the natural world.
