Projects

These are some of the projects I am currently involved with:

Prismatic Melon

This quintet is my main musical focus at present. I formed Prismatic Melon as a vehicle for writing and performing my own compositions. Most of what we play are my tunes, with occasional jazz standards thrown in. I also encourge band members to bring in their own original work. The concept of this group is that of energetic, post-bop jazz, although I strive to convey a variety of moods with my compositions. The quintet performs with a roster of world-class artists including saxophonist Norbert Stachel; pianists Enrique Haneine, Jon Dryden, and Jess Jurkovich; bassists Ike Sturm and Fredi Meli; and drummers Sean Dixon and Eric MacPherson.

Emphasis Orchestra

The Emphasis Orchestra is a large ensemble that was formed in 1993 to explore the possibilities of conducted free improvisation. We have recorded the soundtrack for Stephen Eberle's short film "The Ways", performed Terry Riley's "In C", put on theatrical productions including Erik Satie's "Le Piege de Meduse" and our own "Rusty Trailers", and created a small library of twisted pop tunes. The group is available experimentation and performance at a moment's notice.

Duke Baxter Band

This is a classic soul band that performs regularly for private functions, parties, and weddings. Al Green, Otis Redding, Stevie Wonder, the Temptations...Duke Baxter does it all. When they are working with a horn section, I am usually there doing the Motown tenor thing.

Guitar Duo with Steve Mazzetta

Steve and I have been playing duo improvisations since 1992 and were roommates from 1997-1999. Over the last decade and a half, we've developed an amazing musical rapport and have the ability to spontaneously generate all kinds of music. Tenor sax and electric guitar duo is one of my favorite instrumentations to explore.

Listen While I Moo

This ensemble is comprised of two electric guitars and tenor saxophone. This instrumentation affords many rich textures for improvistion. Steve Mazzetta tends to be involved, as well as either guitarist Chris Adamo or David Rozner. We have appeared live with special guest saxophonist Daniel Carter.
